Membership Renewal

Dear Federation of Burn Foundation Members,

I hope this finds you all well and having had a joyful, safe Thanksgiving and looking forward to the holiday season. We are crunching down on the end of the year and making the turn towards the 2016 American Burn Association Conference and our Annual Federation of Burn Foundations gathering at the conference on May 2, 2016 in Las Vegas.

We are excited to share our new and energized vision for the federation as we move forward. The Reorganization Committee/Acting Board has been collaborating all this past year to refine and clarify the mission of the federation and make certain that the membership receives value from belonging to this group.

It was strongly agreed that the most valuable aspect of the federation is the opportunity to network with colleagues. A unique aspect of membership will be access to the FBF Directory which is currently being updated and will be available online to paid members. The directory is comprehensive and provides foundation contact information along with program descriptions, staffing, catchment areas, and populations served. I know I personally have utilized the directory numerous times to reach out to colleagues with common focus as well as refer burn survivors to appropriate programs across the country and Canada.

We are planning a very worthwhile program at the conference. In keeping with our decision to focus on our core mission, this year’s program will be “We Make A Difference Together.” The Federation of Burn Foundations strives to empower burn organizations to better serve their communities by promoting and assisting in the development of best practices. This year’s SIG will provide a round table discussion exploring the challenges to completing this mission and paths toward success. We will also be holding elections for board positions and officers.

The Reorganization Committee has decided to suspend the scholarship program for this year with the intention of redesigning it to better meet the needs of the membership. This will be further discussed at the annual meeting. Some possibilities include an awards program that will acknowledge an exemplary organization, program or effort. A grant program is also being considered. An online newsletter will be available to keep members abreast of federation efforts and happenings.

I truly believe that this organization holds a unique and viable place in the burn community and I look forward to working with you all to continue to evolve the Federation of Burn Foundations.
